Corrosion profilometry and corrosion monitoring is done using the Corroscan. An image of the area to be inspected is created using lasers and extremely accurate measurements can be made using triangulation methods.
The Corroscan is very light (less than 1kg) and portable and is ideal for measuring corrosion depth on rough corroded surfaces or on hot equipment.
Accuracy for mapping is down to a 30 micron precision for corrosion depth and width.
Focusing on a particular corroded area, actual depths are measured without the need to create a smooth profile e.g. grinding for ultrasonic wall thickness measurements.
As can be seen, the profile is accurately measured and compiled as a permanent record in a number of formats for monitoring and comparison purposes.
By conducting follow up inspections very accurate measurements of corrosion rates can be made.
